Ok, first of all, I know there is already an androgyny thread in this forum. But I read through that thread and the OP was intending it for a different purpose than what this thread is to be about.

Basically, I want to start dressing more androgynously. I just really have no idea where to start, nor how to keep it fashionable (and not looking like a gay guy - not that there's anything wrong with that). I just want to bridge the gap from dressing like a boy to dressing like a girl while I have the chance.

So does anybody know what would look good? I suppose it really depends on what each individual person looks like. I'm white, but my Scottish skin gives me strong pink undertones. So I try to avoid wearing pinks and salmon colours because I'm worried it'll 'drain' the colour from my face. I have blue eyes, brown (really dirty blonde) hair (that is what's left of it, I'm kinda seriously balding Sad ). I stand at about 6 feet tall and I'm neither fat nor skinny. I'm 182 lbs at the moment (eeep....). I'm a grad student so I usually rely on a dress code of t-shirts, cargo pants/shorts and a hooded sweat shirt.

So if anybody has any suggestions whatsoever, I'd really really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance. ^_^

-Izzie

P.S. I kinda wish I didn't have to post this information in the public forum, but that's where the fashion section is. O.o

Good question... I usually mix male and female items (usually jeans, t-shirt and hoodies), in colors and shapes that work for both genders. The more fitted the items are, the more they'll show off your shape, and the more you'll go towards the female spectrum. If you stick to baggy clothes, it'll look a bit more male. Then again, a girl in her boyfriend's football shirt still looks like a girl to me, but that's another matter. Giggling

Basically look at what both genders wear, find a middle ground, and that's it. I'll leave giving more info to our resident experts. Smile

I went the lazy route.........scrubs, sweats, Ts, sandals, flipflops...earrings in BOTH ears.

Even with a Buzz cut I got mam'd......3 months after starting HRT. Confused

It was THEN that I realized my goal/dream of being pretty was not important any longer.....people saw me as a woman. It just couldn't get any better than that. Very Happy

Well.....being seen as a PRETTY woman WOULD have been better....but after decades of being forced into that other role...it wasn't THAT important.

BTW....I'm not sure I agree with the tight/loose clothing remark. Tight jeans will definitely highlight a bad case of Noassatall AND snug clothing will show that you have a straight waistline.

Guess it's an age thingy.

As it is now, I've jsut started wearing clothes that fit me. I had usually tried to hid my body by wearing really baggy clothing. It really didn't have the effect I was looking for. It just made me look like a badly dressed man. O.o

Thanks. ^_^

Yeah, I think you might have been blessed with a feminine body from the get go.

I don't know if I have a bum or not. I have no objective measure. Does anybody want to come over and stare at my bum? (actually, I'd prefer not) ^_^

Oh, and where are these so called experts?

Girl jeans, boys T shirt in a more traditionaly female color and converse shoes. Wear jewlery but wear male and female types at the same time. A convienint excuse for wearing a piece of female jewlery is 'my girlfriend/wife gave it to me'. Get a unisex haircut. As for body language....keep your sexual orientation ambigious.

Converse? Really?

So what constitutes male jewellery?

Yeah, that's not really an option. 0.o

Thanks Cynthia!!

Also, it's kind of strange, but I have not worn a pair of jeans since 1998. It's been shorts, cargo pants and the occasional pair of corduroy since then.

Everyone wears converse shoes!!! And they work on almost everything too.

Cargo pants usually come across as quite male, unless you're going for the skater girl look. But even then there's a big difference between men's and women's versions.

I'd post a picture of how I usually go to work, but it's not going to happen on a public forum!!! Giggling

I'm starting to see traditionally female colors (pinks, puples, BRIGHT blues) in men's cuts of clothes. I think it would be fun to experiement with that some. Get like...a men's tshirt that comes in pink or purple and pair it with like...women's jeans. Not the "skinny jeans" or anything TOO tight because as DJ said I think tight clothes show your figure and then "give you away" but maybe a relaxed fit.

Hoodies can totally go andro.

Scrubs are great as DJ mentioned, but if you don't really have reason to wear them then it's difficult to pull that off.

Myself..I like to wear women's tops with men's pants. Or reverse it. That's how *I* do andro. Giggling

Say WHAT?????

On the "traditional" female colors..............Dear GOD....when I was in high school I wore nice clothes. That was EARLY 70's. I wasn't the only one. One of my favorite outfits was a pair of light gray woolen slacks with a lavender shirt....if I was feeling "special" I wore a black or white tie. Fem colors were big back then...........God that was forever ago. Rolling Eyes

I've always been a sweater freak.....until a few years ago! Laughing One of my favorite sweaters was a baby pink cable knit cotton sweater...........it was beautiful. I always got complimented that I was a "very confident man" to be able to wear that sweater. Giggling Little did they know it made me feel pretty.

You need an excuse to wear scrubs?? We have LOTS of medical people roaming around this community....you can just blend right in! Very Happy It has brought up some very interesting conversations when someone thinks you are in the medical field.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm cool enough to pull off the skater look. ^_^

I've actually started wearing a lot of light blues, and I have one medium purple shirt as well. And it even comes in the v neck style.

Yeah, we have lots of medical people walking around the city and even the university campus all the time. Interestingly, I'm wearing scrubs right now. I use them as pajamas.

Thanks the help so far everyone! ^_^

Thanks Anonymouse!

Usually the shirts I wear go over the belt line so nobody notices the belts I'm wearing. I guess I'll need to change that. I guess one of my issues that makes things difficult is that I try and buy only non-leather items. So belts can be difficult to find (or at least mens belts - which makes this funny).

As for men's jeans. Yeah, that's not a problem as I never wear jeans. Maybe I should consider lifting my jeans ban. O.o

Thanks!

Jeans and a T for me!

Blue denim and brown or yellow (long) T shirt. I say long, because a shorter T does not flatter me.

Pink is also a good colour on me.

The strategy is that one can start with 'men's' attire and move into 'women's' attire quite easily.

I like women's jeans, they fit better but the shallow pockets drive me crazy. I wear either male t-shirts with color or female shirts with less color. My hair is now long and it's very curly, I let it get extra curly and have it drape down in front to one side. No ear rings, but that's just me. I sometimes wear very very light eye makeup, no lipstick though (hate it). If you haven't done beard removal, do it, it's very feminizing and thins your skin a lot. Sandals or plain tennis shoes. I like rings, bracelets, and necklaces, but not particularly feminine ones, more native American style.

Ok Im gonna chime in on this one! You need to find some stores called Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, loop 18
http://fashionbug.lanebryant.com/ I don't know it they have stores in Canada but I do know they are all over the US. Or you can shop online. These chains have a product in they're jeans and sometimes in dress pants and capris, that are called the Right Fit. The jeans are tailored in a different way. there are 3 basic ways they are made. one is for women with no curves...IE most M-F trans. The other category is for partialy curvy women like myself, the final category is for the Full curvy women. Now the thing about these pants is they help pull in certain areas to give the illusion of more curves where you need them, as well as flatten areas that need some smoothing. As for the curvy pairs they accentuate the natural curviness but help flatten areas that maybe a little much. The jeans are stretch they come in boot cut, flare, semi flare, straight leg, petite, average, and even tall for those long legged beauties. The sizes are either the same or different depending on if you want the misses/ junior patterns, or if the women's. the women's are still very cute) In one pair Im a size 22average in the semi curvy but in the women's Im size 6 semi curvy. My wife who unlike me has no ass Laughing so she wears the no curves jeans. These jeans pull up in the rear getting rid of the saggy ass syndrome alot of folks have. It lifts what little butt is there and pulls in slightly on the thighs to give the rear much more definition....Ive seen these jeans on little women and very large women, and it gives each a very defined and attractive appeal. My wife literally has no rear end so much that she says when we win the lottery I can get my hoohaa and a boob job if she can just get ass implants.. however I always tell her throw the DKNY, out the door, we don't need them, cause the $10-$20 fit rights make ur butt the bomb!
