This is a good thing. If it went the other way they could ban books. It makes the citizen responsible for who is elected. Now maybe people will do their research instead of watching TV.
Maybe now we can get rid of the 17 amendment and allow the state legislators pick the senator. This will make state politics more important it will also allow communities to have individual cultures rather than a socialistic system where people thousands of miles away dictate your laws.

Fox News carried the story. The reporting started the moment the decision was made and lasted all day, and included comments by Bill O'Reilly and Greta Van Susteren. One guest made the quip of "the duly elected representative from Moble." It looks like we are well on the way to Corporate representative sponsorship.
Although it must be pointed out that we already have that well in placed now, don't we? I suppose the only difference between now and the future is that in the future, the representatives will have little place cards on their desk identifying their corporate allegiance.

I'm reminded of a psychiatry convention I recorded recently. Every presenter had to disclose any potential conflicts of interest before starting a lecture. What this meant was divulge any ties to drug companies.

Don't forget that the unions are no longer banned, now. It's not just the big corporations, but also the big unions!
AFL-CIO, SEIU, GE, IBM, ...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
This might possibly make politics a little cleaner!!! Imagine that!
Look at it this way.........we will no longer be looking at our reps as humans........we will see them as the "Big Name Corp" that they really are. Now it will all be out in the open...when we receive reports about what is going on in Congress it will no longer be said "Smith against Brown" .......It will be "Blah Insurance against Yada Pharmaceuticals" ....or "XXX Oil fights ZZZ Electric"
It will be fighting without the face masks.
Damn Brilliant Idea!

The US Supreme Court under the direction of Chief Justice John Roberts handed down a decision that is well and truly going to screw the entire country for the next I don't know how long.
In 1907 a decision was handed down that limited a companies contributions to political candidates.
That has been overturned.
So now...............
A candidate will have his/her entire campaign funded by someone like EXXON-MOBIL in return for the said company getting their way. Congressional and Senatorial VOTES are now going to be bought by the highest bidder so that they can get control of the country's laws and overturn anything that they dont like.
The ruling now classifies corporation as people.
Yes that right the Heritage Foundation is now a person.
This is very scary stuff because they are about as right wing anti black, anti woman, anti gay , anti choice as you can get. We are all fucked. I am sorry to swear, but me holding a British Passport is about as good as it gets right now. I am thinking if my rights as a US Citizen are going to be affected by this ,which I am sure they will I am leaving.
Being Trans and having srs will be difficult, if not stopped altogether.
Yesterday was one of the very worst days in this countries history and it flew under the radar and was reported by none of the major networls who, surprise ,surprise are controlled by none other than the media baron himself Rupert Murdoch. A right wing hatemonger.
Mark my words.
Be warned.
JAN 21 20210 is the day the uber rich right wing nut jobs has been waiting for since 1907.
CORPORATIONS ARE NOW A PERSON ACCORDING TO THE FEDERAL GOVT AND CONTIBUTE AS MUCH AS THEY WANT TO A CANDIDATE OF THEIR CHOICE IN ANY ELECTION .PERIOD
We as people are NOW screwed.YOUR VOTE WILL MEAN NOTHING.
Now that I am totally depressed I am off to go enjoy my birthday which is today.
See you a concentration camp for trans people soon.............
I love you all,
Erica.

The change in the law works both ways; the restrictions applied to Unions and Business have been relaxed equally. The only restrictions is the funds available

And that is just a starter. And then you have those who have become apathetic. How do you go about fixing something that is that broken. You have to wonder who's in bed with whom across the political lines, not counting the ones hiding under the bed and in the closet. Government has become so complicated, its a wonder anything gets done.

If we are so dumb to listen to the ads of Exxon touting the virtues of xyz candidate and don't look at the real motives of that candidate and then don't vote for the candidate that is really looking for our best interests then we deserve the political system we get.
One that is corrupt and all about power of the few (the ones in power)
We are really sheep and only listen to the last ad we see before we vote. Only 10 percent of the electorate really look at the races and make rational decisions the rest either vote for ideology or based upon marketing.
Think about it

All that is really nice to point out... but awareness of how stupid people are and how it's not right does nothing to stop stupid people from remaining stupid and hurting a lot of people in the process.
Or, in other words, saying, "Get smart, stupid people!" usually does nothing to make stupid people smart, and if you depend on it to do so or waste time trying to make something impossible like that to happen, you're going to get badly burned.
(The reason? Stupid people don't really accept that they're being stupid. They think they're being smart.)

True, but arguably the greatest impact was that they also overturned the 1907 statute that disallowed corporations from making independent expenditures supporting particular candidates, and a subsequent statute passed following the second World War that extended the same prohibition to unions.
Ads must still say who sponsored them, and direct donations by corporations or unions to political candidates are still prohibited. (I believe that Justice Thomas was the sole dissenter on these two issues.)
Edit: clarified some points - I hope!

yes not good
But your not entirely correct in your characterization of the ruling.
The law that was overturned was McCain/Feingold that said that corporations/Unions and Non Profits could not air ads on the media in support of a candidate in the 60 days before the election.
Corporations have been considered citizens for many many years, actually since 1886 in "Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad".
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_personhood_debate
It is actually a consequence of our policy of taxation and how it relates to the constitution. Without considering a Corporation a person they couldn't be taxed based upon current constitutional law.
This corporations as citizens has to change.
But the Supreme Court did not remove the prohibition against corporations donating directly to a candidate. It is a small point but Corporations can only run ads supporting a candidate.
This will still flood money into campaigns but most likely not anymore than the present system of Corporations donating to a 527 in unlimited amounts and then having that organization do the adds which has been the loophole around McCain/Feingold since it was passed.
The key is to find a new way to tax Corporations or change the Constitution so that Corporations are not "persons" then remove all donations by PAC's, Unions or Corporations and limit donations to 100 dollars and in exchange give candidates who have collected enough grass roots support to tap Federal dollars for national races. For Congressional races make them go back to retail politics.... Ie. shaking hands and give speeches to the rotary.

Not good.
The price for a Rep or Senator will now skyrocket. Thought you could buy a Senator for 100,000$ on the sly? Well you could before but now ... No civilian can pony up the shear amount of cash a mega corp can. Espesialy if they are legaly able to buy influence.
Then the critical mass of industry purchasers of Senators will be reached and the other companies that didnt get to the Senators in time will be pissed off and mark my words....Prepare for inter corporate warefar, not monetary but actual military actions where companies will wage war.
Bad day indeed.
