I have the support of the state GBLT chapter, the local party, support from Multnomah county dems in Oregon and everyone has been great. At the last meeting of the party down at the Longshoremans union hall( now thats a great place for someone like us all to end up at ) I was asked to speak by the party chair. I had no info with me, it was all off the cuff and unscripted. Onr the way to the front of the meeting I had to walk about 25 yards past everyone else looking at me. I got to the podium and took in a deep breath..........I looked at everyone and then the passion to ending the wrongs spewed forth.........
I talked about this and that and the other ( the other got a lot of laughs and made old ladies giggle in the cute way that only old ladies with a distant memory can giggle) and pledged to end gender discrimination in Washington State.
What happened next was off the frickin hook............. 65 people got up out of their chairs and gave me a standing ovation. I was completely effing stunned.
State reps, people running for various offices even the man running for county proscutor, interneters and bloggers everyone just stood up and clapped.
I am passionate about this stuff.........its in my heart and apparantly it came out . After the meeting, several folks came up to me and wanted my tel number, I was given hugs and congratulated. One elderly man who was ruddy faced and had hands the size of shovels hugged me......he said"you probaly know that you have chosen a difficult road to live on miss, but we are here to help.I see in you what I was a long time ago" to which an old lady said" you mean you used to wear dresses Fred" followed by shrieks of laughter They saw in me the passion that I have for righting the wrong, for leading the charge and doing what is morally right. I like public speaking and have done it at flower shows and trade shows. I usually do it with a power point presentations, but this was more powerful than flowers. This was about life. This was unsripted, unrefined and from a place deep inside me.....it was about us ,about my country, which I love dearly with all that is me.
I was told I have their support and all the help I need, all I got to do is ask. They saw a younger person carrying the torch and it excited them to see someone with the passion that they had all those years ago for a cause that is bigger than themselves.
I am moving out of the district this weekend, but I have commited to seeing this through and will spend every first Tuesday for the rest of the year at the meetings. I shall be lobbying the governor to add to the non discrimination policy and If I can garner support through letter writing with a representative in Olympia(WA State Capitol) we will make a difference. Not just for me, but for everyone. The bigger picture is everyone.
Be well,
Erica.

Hi All,
Currently the local Democratic Party here in Vancouver (vantucky ) does not have a GBLT chapter.
I am going to change that.
If anyone lives in Clark County Wa and you want to join/help etc let me know.
PM to get my tel number and we'll talk/organize
Together we are going to make a difference in our community helping those in need and registering people to vote. My goal is to get as many GBLT identified people within the county registered to vote as possible by 12-31-2010
Thanks for any help, and yes I am a liberal and very proud of my nearly 30 years in unions.
Its time to give back by volunteering.
Be well
Erica.
