Here is what I have been told by my two hair people, both have 20 plus years in the industry.Neither knows the other, one lives in Washington near me, and the other is an old friend who lives in Texas .
One is male, one is female. They both say the same thing.
Get plenty of rest.
Drink lots of water
Eat a sensible diet.
Hair is dead the second it leaves your head.
Wash your hair as little as possible. Never wash your hair with shampoo before the big event of the week such as going out for dinner.I wash mine daily with conditioner. I mist with an oil before drying on low to medium heat and then apply an anti friz before using the flat iron. I get the look I want easily now.
I use Paul Mitchell detangler conditioner and Redken shampoo.
Eat well, sleep, well drink lots of water and go to a reputable salon and seek advice.
Tell the hair professional about you, show them what you are using and what do they recommend. When I say hair professional I don't mean going into a chain hair shop, ,see if you can find an old time hair shop, that has been around for a long time.I pay $35.00 for a cut wash and blow dry, and $70.. for highlights. Yes its expensive and it costs me a days wages to get my hair highlighted but its my indulgence in my self. If I look as good as I can and feel good I generally have a better attitude and do a better job in life.
There are as you know a gazillion products out there for hair, cheap is not always bad and expensive is not always good. Ak your hair pro what will be best, tell them you are on a budget. Everyone's hair is different. Hormones will affect your hair. Alcohol or drugs will affect your hair.
I find that the chain hair shops hire folks straight out of school, with little experience and a very flippant attitude. Most make minimum wage.
Getting your hair trimmed also every 6 weeks or so will also promote growth and fullness. I am pretty happy with my hair at the moment! Nod

Cuba's free sex changes marks break from the past

HAVANA - Looking in the mirror used to make Yiliam Gonzalez sick to her stomach.

"I would see myself, and my body didn't match who I was," said the 28-year-old wedding pianist, who went by William before receiving a sex change under Cuba's universal health care system.

Gonzalez is living proof of a small but remarkable transformation for the rugged revolution of Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and a band of ever-macho, bearded rebels, who long punished gays and transsexuals -- but now are paying for sex changes.

A sad testiment that a country like Cuba is more advanced and evolved than many of the first world nations.
